Courses are delivered over a standard 12-week semester. A detailed timetable for courses is available on our website. Of the 30 contact hours per course, approximately 10 will be spend in the Gallery with curatorial staff and the relevant collections.
The full program is a coursework Masters degree, comprising of four courses (Graduate Diploma), followed by a dissertation or research project. Depending upon a student's course selection, the Masters program may be completed in one and a half years.
Students who take four courses are eligible to graduate with a Graduate Diploma in Art History, while those who complete two courses are eligible for a Graduate Certificate. In addition, people are invited to undertake any one of the courses related to their particular personal or professional interests in order to qualify for a Professional Certificate. In order to take out the award of Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma, it is necessary to do at least one core course (Australian Art, European Art or Asian Art). Students are able to take extra courses and have these covered by FEE-HELP (Higher Education Loan Program).

Auditing courses in the Art History Program
We have a number of audit students in the Art History program. They tend to be those who may not have the time to take a subject for credit, or they do not have the necessary undergraduate degree, or they have a passion for a certain art form, for example Japanese arts, and want to find out more about it.
Auditing a course is quite straightforward. It simply involves attending Lectures and Gallery sessions; there are no written requirements and we provide all the course materials (handbooks and readers) to our audit students. It is a wonderful, 'no strings attached' way to learn in what is proving to be the most innovative Art History program in the nation.
