Study art for pleasure
Application form
The Art History program offers a 'Study Art for Pleasure' audit program. You can accelerate you appreciation of art without the pressures of actually enrolling in a degree. You experience the dynamic, 'hands-on' sessions in the Art Gallery delivered by the Gallery Director and curators around works in the collection, and you attend lectures as an audit student, but you do not need to complete the assessment.
This means you attend classes, receive course booklets and readers, but do not formally enrol. You do not gain a qualification, since you have not enrolled, but you receive all the benefits and experience the pleasure of attending the most dynamic art history program in the country!
Please note that the audit program is only available for the Art History Program.
'Study Art for Pleasure' is for:
- the 'time poor' members of the community
- people who want to indulge their love of art and have their ideas challenged
- those who want to 'test the waters' of taking an Art History subject without having to complete the assessment
- collectors who wish to be better informed about art
- those who don't want the pressure of writing essays
- those who don't have the qualification to be admitted to a post graduate degree but still wish to learn about art
Some 'study art for pleasure' students take a number of our subjects this way; others go on to formally enrol in later subjects.

What the students have to say:
Having completed the Professional Certificate I was keen to continue studies in the Graduate Program in Art History. Due to business commitments i decided to audit studies in Modern Art. I found the gallery visits most interesting and lecture note follow-ups helpful. For students with time constraints auditing one of the courses is a most rewarding way to learn.
Auditing courses in the Graduate Diploma in Art History was very rewarding. I found myself in the situation that I didn't have the time to fully apply myself to the course and complete the assessment at a standard that I would be happy with so I decided to audit the courses instead. The curators at the Gallery are fantastic and the sessions held there were very interesting.
Fees:
The price per course is $1800 (includes GST). This fee includes entrance into the Art Gallery sessions as well as the University lectures.
'Study Art for Pleasure' audit students are not eligible for the FEE-HELP program (this is for formally enrolled students). Fees are payable up-front, and they can either be paid in full ($1800) or in 2 instalments of $900 each.
