European Studies
European Studies is an interdisciplinary area of the curriculum in the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences. To compile a major or a minor in European Studies, students can choose from a wide variety of courses that have some aspect of European life and culture as their primary focus. The major or minor will therefore provide the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge of Europe's rich tradition through the study of its literature, philosophy, history, politics, cinema, art and architecture.
Most courses are offered by particular Disciplines within the Faculty (History, Politics, etc), but there is also a small number of dedicated interdisciplinary courses that have a EUST prefix. Details of current course offerings can be found on the Undergraduate page.
There is no administrative unit called "European Studies" in the Faculty. However, the major and the dedicated EUST courses are administered by members of staff in French, German and Spanish. You should contact the Head of one of those Disciplines for further information about courses.
A major or minor in European Studies would be an excellent complement to a major or minor in one of the following areas: a European language; Classics; History; Politics; International Studies.
