Living Alone Study
Solo Living An investigation of the experiences of Australian adults aged between 30-55 who are living alone
What the study is about There is very little known about how people who live alone manage their lives and connections with others and we are interested in exploring this topic. This is important as more and more people are living alone either by choice or circumstances. In many world cities, as many as 50 percent of people are now living alone, and this number is expected to continue growing. We are interested in talking with women and men aged 30-55, who are living alone and have done so for at least the past three years. The interviews will be very open conversations about the experiences of solo living, how it came about and how people manage their connections with others.
What taking part in this study involves If you would like to participate you will be invited to be interviewed by Ruthie O’Reilly who is a PhD candidate at The University of Adelaide. The interviews can either be conducted at the University or at a location more convenient for you. The interview will be a conversational type where your experience and ideas are the focus. It will take between 60-90 minutes. With your consent, Ruthie will tape the interview but if you’d prefer this not to be done she will take notes instead.
Confidentially and guarantees Your interview will be strictly confidential. When the tape is transcribed names and identifying information will be changed. You will be given a pseudonym which will be the only identification attached to your interview file. You are also free to withdraw from the study at any time and there will not be any consequences if you decide you do not want your interview to contribute to the research.
