About AdelaideFounded in 1836, Adelaide is the state capital of South Australia. It is an attractive well-planned city of wide streets, gardens, squares, parklands and a mixture of historic and modern buildings. About one million people live in Adelaide, renowned for its rich cultural life. The city is small enough to be friendly and welcoming, yet large enough to provide plenty of attractions and entertainment.
The Adelaide Fringe celebrates the city's love of music and the performing arts with artists coming from around the world. Set between the hills and the sea, Adelaide enjoys a Mediterranean climate with a 15°C average maximum in winter and 29°C average maximum during summer. Beaches, outdoor sports, theatres and shopping are popular pastimes.
