Honours

An Honours degree is a further year of study in a specialised area of study. It will develop your research and writing skills and significantly enhance your employment opportunities in the market place. Honours is the normal prerequisite for entry to a Higher Degree by Research at the Masters and Doctor of Philosophy level, and is also preferred by many employers.

A wide range of Honours specialisations are available and provide a single focussed year of study in which you can concentrate on a single discipline, gaining an understanding of the theoretical principles, research methodologies and areas of study for future study.

Honours includes advanced coursework and a research component which is an extended piece of work (thesis) on a chosen topic in consultation with an academic supervisor. The Honours year is considered to be a year of full-time study and regular attendance at classes is required. It is possible to do Honours over two years on account of special personal or medical circumstances.

Honours specialisations are available in the following degrees:

Bachelor of Arts (Hons)                         Bachelor of Development Studies (Hons)
Bachelor of Environmental Policy and Management (Hons)   Bachelor of International Studies (Hons)
Bachelor of Media (Hons)Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons)

How to Apply

To apply for Honours, please contact the Honours Convenor in the discipline of your choice. Applications are called for by Departments/Disciplines in October and November each year and should be  made to the relevant Discipline Office.
