Student Leave of Absence Policy

Student Leave of Absence
On 28 October, 2009 the Vice -Chancellor and Presiden revoked the Stuent Leave of Absence Policy. This followed consultation with all academic and administrative staff. The removal of this policy from the University Policy means that

  • domestic coursework students will no longer need to apply to take leave from their study. They will need to obtain approval from their School before they take leave
  • domestic coursework students who take extended leave (ie periods longer than 12 months), may find their enrolment is discontinued and they may no longer have access to the University's e-mail system and other electronic networks. To resume studies in their program, they will need to contact their Faculty of School so that their student record can be updated to allow online enrolment
  • international coursework students cannot defer their studies for more than 6 months and they can only do so on medical or compassionate grounds. In such cases, students must contact the International Student Centre for more information regarding this process
  • all coursework students who are not enrolled in any given study period will have their borrowing rights suspended at the University's libraries for that sudy period

Location & Nature of Teaching

Most of the teaching is carried out in the seminar rooms located on the First and Second Floors of Napier Building. Students may also wish to attend undergraduate lectures in subjects related to their work. These are may be found by consulting the University timetable. They are particularly useful for students who have little background in the area of politics, and who may feel that they require some additional introductory information/material. These are not compulsory, of course, and the associated tutorials intended for undergraduate students only. Students may wish to consult the Lecturer-in-Charge of their seminars, or the Program Coordinator, for details of which courses may be useful to them.
