Philosophy

Welcome to the Discipline of Philosophy at the University of Adelaide!

Philosophy Club Events

The University of Adelaide Philosophy Club has been in existence for more than 70 years. It is an exciting forum for discussing the wide range of issues with which philosophy makes contact. The club organises regular discussion evenings and other philosophy-related events.

EU/AUS Student Exchange

The Philosophy Discipline is one of four Australian partners in the EU/AUS Network of Degrees in Ethics, Human Rights and Institutions. In 2009 the network will host ten European students in Australia. There are 10-12 funded places available for Adelaide students to travel to a European partner university for one semester of study. This study will be credited towards your Adelaide degree. For further information see: http://www.cappe.edu.au/EUAUS/.

Eureka Prize for Ethics

Professor Garrett Cullity is this year's winner of the Eureka Prize for Ethics, announced last night by the Australian Museum. Professor Cullity won the prize for his book "The Moral Demands of Affluence", in which he argues that a life well-lived should be the goal of every human, rich or poor.

Professor Cullity says that it is not morally wrong to live a life of rich personal fulfilment. He is donating his $10,000 Eureka Prize to aid agencies.

"Life Matters" on ABC Radio National  has an online interview with Professor Cullity.
