Bachelor of Media / Bachelor of Social Sciences
Graduated 2007

I'm constantly fascinated by the way we keep up with, interact with and produce media. At 21 a friend and I started a magazine in Adelaide. It was small, but it felt like the most exciting thing we'd ever done. I decided then that I wanted to make media for real. The Bachelor of Media appealed to me because it focused on teaching both theory and actual production. There were no other media degrees that offered subjects like media law with both creative and technical elements. I ended up studying a double degree with Social Sciences, and doing radio production and multimedia electives. Having the opportunity to produce and broadcast a weekly radio show was great, and I ended up co-presenting a program on 3D and working as a producer and trainer for a youth radio program. In my third year I became the editor of Adelaide University 's student paper, On Dit . I would highly recommend to anyone interested in media that they become involved with On Dit and Radio Adelaide - the training and experience it gave me has been invaluable.

While I loved analysing TV shows, films, radio, newspapers and video games and to have the opportunity to broadcast live radio shows and create media, it was also important for me to be critical of the deep social, political and cultural constructs that go into the production and consumption of media. Throughout my studies I was always interested in communities telling stories in their own words, and this led me to discovering Digital Storytelling. Six months later I completed a Media Industry Placement at the Media Resource Centre and was fortunate to work with an extraordinarily supportive mentor who was generous with his time and knowledge in the field of Digital Storytelling.

Since graduating I have been working at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image in Melbourne . My team runs the Digital Storytelling program and produces public programs from the research and creative development through to the coordination and delivery of all things moving image: film, television, new media, games and art. Media landscapes are constantly changing,  When I started uni there was no such thing as Facebook or myspace and by the time I finished they were old news. It's exciting to be working on the forefront of changing digital media, and to truly be a part of this constantly evolving artform.
