Elspeth GrantBachelor
of Arts (Honours) Since graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honours in History) from the University of Adelaide, I have won the position of Manager and Curator of Ayers House Museum with the National Trust. I enrolled at university to change my career. I had been working in State Government administration since leaving school and wanted to pursue my passion for history. I was able to study full time and work part time throughout the degree. This was important because I needed both experience in business management and qualifications in history to win the position of museum manager. The University assisted in the initial transition by granting me course credit for my existing Diploma of Business Management from TAFE. I gained much from the independent learning opportunities the University offers, particularly the South Australian Parliamentary Internship Scheme. My Honours supervisor was Dr Paul Sendziuk, who has previously won the University's award for excellence in teaching (and rightly so!) The three key attributes I have taken from time at Adelaide University are the ability to research and write well, networking skills and the confidence to aim high.
