Nathan Paine

Nathan Paine

Bachelor of Arts / Major: Politics
Graduated 1999

Nathan Paine always enjoyed the political game, and learned early on in his career that parliamentary politics itself is not the only way to make an impact.

Now the Executive Director of the Property Council of Australia (South Australian Division), Nathan cut his political teeth with The Hon Paul Holloway MLC. He built on the knowledge, concepts and thought processes developed during his Bachelor of Arts majoring in politics from the University of Adelaide to learn the cut and thrust machinations of grass-roots politics. He also honed his awareness of policy development and advocacy principles. Armed with these skills he easily made the transition to the private realm, taking on a policy role under Peter Vaughan, the formidable chief executive of industry advocate Business SA.

Working his way through the Business SA ranks to the role of Principle Policy Advocate, Nathan constructed an extensive network of contacts that soon helped him move into a national advocacy role with the Motor Trades Association of Australia in Canberra . Nathan thrived in the world of high-level advocacy that is Canberra and was soon lured back to Adelaide with an offer he couldn't refuse at Business SA.

Nathan's extensive networks and experience continued to boost his profile within Adelaide 's political circle and it wasn't long until another opportunity presented itself, seeing him fast-tracked into the Executive Director role with the Property Council at the age of 29. Nathan now helms the state's peak property industry body, one representing more than $33 billion invested in property assets in South Australia . Managing a team of dedicated commercial, policy and communications specialists, Nathan is now at the forefront of economic and political debate around the future of the state. He drives his team to maintain its reputation for delivering the best networking and professional development events in the state, and strives to make the SA Division of the Property Council the state's most powerful and influential member-based advocates.
