Noelle SmitBachelor
of Environmental Policy and Management I decided to study the Bachelor of Environmental Studies (now Bachelor of Environmental Policy and Management) because I was very interested in the approvals process of major developments, as well as their ongoing environmental management. I saw the program as a stepping stone into this line of work as it was broad enough so I could work on projects in any industry. The program had a broad range of courses to choose from, and my areas of specialisation were in Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Management. The environmental internship in my final year was a great opportunity to experience working in the industry, to make contacts and help to find work. After working in Adelaide for Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) as an Environmental Scientist I gained a position with SA Water, where I currently work. My studies in Geographical Information Systems has also opened many doors for me and given me the opportunity to work in another field part-time. My knowledge of state and Commonwealth legislation, which was gained through the program, has proved invaluable in my career as I already had full understanding of the approvals process our clients must go through before development can go ahead.
