The European Union Prize for European Studies

In 1995 the European Commission to Australia and New Zealand undertook to contribute a sum of $2,000 to the Faculty of Arts (now Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences) to facilitate and encourage work in European studies at the University. In the context of the new named degree, Bachelor of Arts (European Studies) being introduced from the beginning of 1996, it was decided to use the interest from this sum to establish a prize in the discipline of European Studies.

Whereas the European Commission to Australia and New Zealand has provided funding to the University to facilitate and encourage work in the area of European Studies at the University, the following rules are hereby made:

  1. There shall be an annual prize called "The European Union Prize for European Studies".
  2. The value of the prize shall be $100, unless otherwise determined by the Faculty.
  3. The prize shall be awarded by the Faculty to the student who has shown the highest academic merit in a level II European Studies subject.
  4. If in any particular year, the examiners consider that no candidate is suitable for the prize, then no award shall be made.
  5. If the examiners deem that two or more candidates are of equal merit, the prize shall be divided equally among those candidates.
  6. These rules may be varied from time to time by the Faculty, but the title and purpose of the prize shall not be changed.
