The Galatis Medal for First Year Ancient Greek

In 2001 Mr Nicholas Galatis approached the university and proposed the establishment of a further three prizes in the area of Ancient Greek Studies, one of which is the The Galatis Medal for First Year Ancient Greek. The aim of this prize is to encourage students to excel in first year (beginners) Ancient Greek language.

  1. The name of the prize shall be “The Galatis Medal for First Year Ancient Greek.”
  2. The prize shall be a medal.
  3. The prize shall be awarded each year at the Annual Byzantine Lecture and Prize-Giving Ceremony.
  4. The prize shall be awarded to the student with the most outstanding result for first year (beginners) Ancient Greek.
  5. If, in any particular year, the examiner/s consider that no candidate is suitable for the prize, then no award shall be made.
  6. These rules may be varied if at some time in the future if the Faculty considers it prudent to do so, but the title and general purpose of the prize shall not be changed.
