Honours fields of study

There are three main areas which can be studied during an Honours year:

  • Honours in Chinese Studies
  • Honours in Japanese Studies
  • Honours in Asian Studies

Honours Options and Pre-requisites

BA Honours: with an Asian Language

  • Chinese/Japanese III with credit or above, or equivalent.
  • Three non-language Asian Studies or Asia-related subjects at a credit standard or above.

BA Honours: without an Asian Language

  • Four non-language Asian Studies or Asia-related subjects at a credit standard or above, and training in any one discipline in humanities and social sciences.

BA Honours: Joint Honours (with another department): with an Asian Language

  • Chinese/Japanese III with credit or above.
  • Two non-language, Asian Studies or Asia-related subjects at a credit standard or above, and
  • Acceptance as a Joint Honours candidate by the Department which will jointly participate in the student's Honours program.

BA Honours: Joint Honours (with another department): without an Asian Language

  • Three non-language, Asian Studies or Asia-related subjects at a credit standard or above, and
  • Acceptance as a Joint Honours candidate by the department which will jointly participate in the student's Honours program.

Semester 1

Semester 2

Theory and Methodology
in Asian Studies (25%)

Core Language or Special Topics
in Asian Studies (25%)

Thesis (50%)

The content of the course work for each individual student is decided by Asian Studies Honours Committee.
